Caravan Electric Brakes

At Hardings Swift we have a wealth of Electric Brake Experience. As a repairer we have been working with electric brakes now for over 42 years, when they first were introduced. The unit in the car controls the amount of power delivered to the brakes and the electric magnet on the brake drum delivers this power to the brake linings via a cam type system. It’s a mechanical system that is well proven. It’s designed for RV vehicles in the sense it can be left unused for long periods of time without affecting it performance (ie. Against hydraulic type equivelants)

The 3 brands of electric brakes we support and are agents for are

  • Alko
  • Dexter
  • Vehicle Components

These 3 all provide solid support to their products and have invested R & D into development over the years.

Alko ESCalko-esc

We are an Alko Authorised ESC Installers. It is a great system that will bring on the caravan brakes in an emergency situation. See link below. When installing ESC there is also a trigger circuit needed in the tow vehicle. If we are retro-fitting ESC to a used caravan we need to service the electric brakes to ensure they are in good roadworthy condition.

Dexter DSC

dexter-dscWe are an Authorised Dexter DSC Installer. It is a great system that will bring on the caravan brakes in an emergency situation. See link below. The DSC system doesn’t need a trigger circuit on the car, instead it connects to the caravan house battery. If we are retro-fitting DSC to a used caravan we need to service the electric brakes to ensure they are in good roadworthy condition.
